Terms of Service

1. What LinkOwl Is

LinkOwl ("we", "us", "our") provides an attribution service for mobile app developers. We help you track which marketing links drive installs and purchases of your apps. The service is operated by Sam Wild.

By creating an account or using our SDK, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service.

2. Your Account

You need an account to use LinkOwl. You're responsible for keeping your login details and API keys secure. Don't share your API keys publicly (e.g. in client-side code that end users can see).

You must be at least 18 years old and have the legal authority to enter into these terms. If you're using LinkOwl on behalf of a company, you confirm you have authority to bind that company.

3. How Pricing Works

LinkOwl is free to use. We charge per attributed purchase event:

  • £0.05 per attributed first purchase (initial purchase or one-time purchase)
  • £0.02 per attributed renewal (subscription renewals, product changes, resubscriptions)

An "attributed" purchase means a purchase from a user who installed your app via one of your LinkOwl tracking links. Unattributed purchases are free. Installs are free. Clicks are free.

Your balance accumulates. We only charge your payment method once your balance reaches £5.00. Below that, it rolls over month to month. No surprise charges.

We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice via email. Continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance.

4. What You Must Do

  • Comply with Apple's App Store Review Guidelines and Developer Program License Agreement
  • Comply with Google Play Developer Policies (if applicable)
  • Comply with all applicable laws, including data protection laws (UK GDPR, EU GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
  • Include appropriate privacy disclosures in your own app's privacy policy about your use of LinkOwl's SDK
  • Not use LinkOwl for any unlawful purpose, or to track users without appropriate legal basis

5. Data Processing

When you use LinkOwl, you are the data controller and we are the data processor under UK GDPR. We process personal data (hashed IP addresses, timezone, locale, purchase events) on your behalf to provide the attribution service.

We will:

  • Only process personal data according to your instructions (i.e. to provide the service)
  • Keep all data confidential
  • Implement appropriate security measures (encryption, hashing, access controls)
  • Not engage additional sub-processors without making them available for your review (see our Privacy Policy for the current list)
  • Assist you with data subject access requests where reasonably possible
  • Notify you of any data breach without undue delay (within 72 hours)
  • Delete or return your data upon termination of your account, at your request

6. What Our SDK Collects

The LinkOwl SDK collects minimal data from your app's end users:

  • Timezone — the device's timezone setting
  • Locale — the device's language/region setting
  • IP address — captured server-side from the HTTP request, immediately hashed with a daily-rotating salt, never stored in plain text

We do not collect: device IDs (IDFA, IDFV), advertising identifiers, screen size, device model, or any data requiring Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • LinkOwl is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied
  • We do not guarantee uptime, accuracy of attribution, or that the service will meet your specific requirements
  • Our total liability to you is limited to the fees you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £100, whichever is greater
  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of revenue, data, or profits

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless LinkOwl and its operator from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any third party's rights (including Apple or Google platform policies).

9. Termination

You can delete your account at any time. We can suspend or terminate your account at any time for any reason, with or without notice. On termination:

  • Any outstanding balance over £5.00 will be charged to your payment method
  • Balances under £5.00 are forgiven
  • Your data will be deleted within 30 days unless you request it sooner

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We'll notify you by email of material changes at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
