Shopify Setup Guide — Track Which Influencer Drives Sales

Set up LinkOwl on your Shopify store in under 5 minutes. No coding required.

This guide walks you through setting up LinkOwl on your Shopify store. When you're done, you'll see exactly which influencer, campaign, or link drives each sale.

Total time: about 5 minutes. No coding required.

What you need

  • A LinkOwl account (free at linkowl.app)
  • Access to your Shopify admin

Step 1: Create your app in LinkOwl

  1. Log in to linkowl.app
  2. Click Add App in your dashboard
  3. Enter your store name (e.g., "My Coffee Shop")
  4. Copy your API Key and App ID — you'll need these in a moment

Step 2: Create tracked links

Still in the LinkOwl dashboard:

  1. Click Create Link
  2. Give it a name (e.g., "Sarah's Instagram" or "TikTok Campaign")
  3. Set the destination URL to your shop (e.g., https://myshop.com)
  4. Copy the tracked link (e.g., linkowl.app/l/sarah)
  5. Repeat for each influencer or campaign

Step 3: Add the tracking pixel to Shopify

This is the only slightly technical step, and it's just a copy-paste:

  1. In your Shopify Admin, go to Settings → Customer Events
  2. Click Add Custom Pixel
  3. Name it "LinkOwl Attribution"
  4. Paste the following code:
// LinkOwl Attribution Pixel
// Replace YOUR_API_KEY and YOUR_APP_ID with your values from Step 1

const LO_API_KEY = 'YOUR_API_KEY';
const LO_APP_ID = 'YOUR_APP_ID';

(The full pixel code is provided in your LinkOwl dashboard under Setup → Shopify)

  1. Click Save
  2. Make sure the pixel status shows as Connected

That's it. Your store is now tracking which links drive which sales.

Step 4: Share the tracked links

Give each influencer their unique link:

  • Sarah gets linkowl.app/l/sarah
  • Jake gets linkowl.app/l/jake
  • Your email campaign uses linkowl.app/l/email

They use these links instead of your regular shop URL. When someone clicks through and buys, the sale is attributed.

What you'll see

In your LinkOwl dashboard, each link shows:

  • Clicks — how many people tapped the link
  • Sales — how many of those clicks led to a purchase
  • Revenue — total revenue attributed to that link

So you might see:

Link Clicks Sales Revenue
Sarah's Instagram 340 12 £480
Jake's TikTok 89 1 £40
Email newsletter 120 8 £320

Now you know Sarah and your newsletter are driving real sales. Jake's audience clicks but doesn't buy.

What it costs

LinkOwl charges 5p per attributed sale. No monthly fee, no minimum.

If your influencers drive 100 sales in a month, that's £5. If they drive zero, you pay nothing.

Common questions

Do my customers see anything different? No. The experience is completely invisible to customers. They click a link, land on your shop, and buy as normal.

Does this affect my site speed? No. The pixel loads asynchronously and is tiny (under 2KB).

What about customers who don't click the link? If someone sees an influencer's post but goes to your shop directly (types the URL or Googles you), that sale won't be attributed. Link-based attribution only tracks people who clicked the tracked link.

Can I use this alongside discount codes? Yes. Tracked links and discount codes work independently. You can use both if you want belt-and-braces tracking.

I use Shopify Payments, not Stripe. Does it still work? Yes. The tracking works through Shopify's checkout events, not through your payment provider directly. It works with Shopify Payments, Stripe, PayPal, or any other payment method your store accepts.
